River guide employment
The Nenana River, characterized by its free-flowing, large volume, and class II to IV rapids, is fed by glaciers, resulting in water temperatures ranging between 38 and 45 degrees. While the rapids are not excessively technical, the sheer volume of water generates powerful waves and hydraulics, coupled with swift and continuous currents, making the glacial gray water challenging to navigate. Our fleet of rafts varies from 18ft. oar rafts and our 16 ft. boats used as paddle with a stern mount. Each guest, including children as young as 5 on the Wilderness Wave class II/easy III section and senior citizens on the class III to IV Canyon Wave whitewater section, is provided with a full drysuit for thermal protection, PFD and helmet.
This role requires hands-on involvement, including personally assisting each guest with dressing and undressing to ensure proper suit care, checking for closed zippers, damaged gaskets, proper fit, and overall comfort to ensure the best possible guest experience. Ensure all boats are rigged with safety as top priority.
