we are committed to the evironment.

At New Wave Adventures, sustainable tourism isn't just a buzzword; it's a core commitment woven into the fabric of our guiding philosophy. Our dedicated guides actively engage with guests, imparting essential knowledge about the principles of Leave No Trace, ensuring that every excursion leaves behind only footprints. We prioritize responsible wildlife viewing, sharing guidelines endorsed by the Alaska Department of Fish and Game to foster respectful interactions with the natural world.

Furthermore, we empower our guests with information on how to minimize adverse impacts on plant and animal species, promoting a deeper understanding of ecosystem dynamics. By embracing these practices, we not only facilitate unforgettable outdoor experiences but also nurture a culture of environmental stewardship, ensuring that the beauty and integrity of our natural landscapes endure for generations to come.

Minimize adverse impacts on plant and animal species
Stay on designated trails and avoid trampling vegetation to protect delicate plant species.

  • Keep a safe distance from wildlife to prevent disturbance and stress to animals in their natural habitat.

  • Properly dispose of all waste, including food scraps, to prevent attracting animals and disrupting their behaviors.

  • Respect seasonal closures and wildlife protection zones to allow for undisturbed nesting and breeding periods.

  • Use biodegradable and environmentally friendly products to minimize pollution and harm to local ecosystems.

Leave No Trace Principals

  1. Plan Ahead and Prepare: Proper planning ensures safety, minimizes impact, and enhances enjoyment of outdoor adventures.

  2. Travel and Camp on Durable Surfaces: Stay on established trails and durable surfaces to avoid damaging fragile ecosystems.

  3. Dispose of Waste Properly: Pack out all trash, including food scraps, and dispose of human waste properly to minimize pollution.

  4. Leave What You Find: Preserve the natural environment by leaving rocks, plants, and other natural objects undisturbed.

  5. Minimize Campfire Impacts: Use existing fire rings or camp stoves, and be mindful of fire regulations to prevent forest fires and damage to habitats.

  6. Respect Wildlife: Observe wildlife from a safe distance and avoid feeding or approaching them to prevent disturbance and habituation.

  7. Be Considerate of Other Visitors: Respect other outdoor enthusiasts by minimizing noise, yielding on trails, and practicing good trail etiquette.

Strenghth in numbers

We are excited to join forces with the Don't Feed The Landfills initiative! We will collaborate on sustainable practices in the Denali National Park area. Nestled within its expansive 6 million acres of protected wilderness, Denali attracts over 600,000 visitors annually. However, this popularity comes with a downside - an average of 320 pounds of trash per year ends up in local landfills. Despite the park's majestic allure, waste management remains a pressing issue due to the sheer volume of visitors seeking to experience its natural splendor.

In 2015, Denali Park partnered with the Don't Feed The Landfills Initiative, alongside the Denali Education Center and Doyon/Aramark Joint Venture, receiving support from Subaru of America, the National Parks Conservation Association, and the local Denali community. Together, they embarked on a journey to devise sustainable solutions to minimize the park's waste output. By 2018, significant strides were made, with a 30% reduction in landfill-bound trash achieved through expanded recycling initiatives, promotion of reusable products such as water bottles and bags, and the introduction of composting programs for both employees and food services.

While celebrating the attainment of the initial goal, Denali National Park remains steadfast in its commitment to environmental stewardship. New Wave Adventures mission alongside that of the ongoing mission of Denali Education Center and Doyon/Aramark is to be a responsible neighbor to the surrounding communities and to uphold the ethos of #DontFeedTheLandfills by continually striving for improvement.
