Questions about our hikes? Check here for answers

Will we see wildlife?

Denali is one of the best places in Alaska to experience wildlife in its natural habitat. While wildlife sightings can never be guaranteed, guests frequently encounter moose, caribou, Arctic ground squirrels, foxes, snowshoe hares, ptarmigan, and a variety of birds throughout the summer season. Occasionally, hikers may also spot Dall sheep on nearby ridges or even bears in the distance.

Our guides are trained in wildlife awareness and safety and carry bear spray at all times. We always maintain safe viewing distances and follow Leave No Trace principles to ensure wildlife remains wild. Even when animals aren't visible, your guide will point out tracks, signs, and interesting facts about the creatures that call Denali home.

What happens if it rains?

Rain is a natural part of the Alaska experience, and our hikes operate rain or shine. In fact, some of the most beautiful hiking days in Denali occur after a light rain, when the mountains emerge from the clouds and the tundra colors become even more vibrant.

We recommend bringing a waterproof rain jacket and dressing in layers to stay comfortable throughout the hike. If weather conditions become severe or unsafe, such as high winds, lightning, or trail hazards, your guide may adjust the route, delay departure, or reschedule the trip. Guest safety is always our top priority.

Are children allowed?

Yes! Families are welcome on our guided hikes. Exploring Denali on foot is a fantastic way for children to experience Alaska's wildlife, scenery, and wilderness firsthand.

We recommend that parents contact us before booking if they have younger children so we can help determine the best hiking option for their family. Our guides can often adjust the pace and route to accommodate a wide range of ages and abilities. Private hikes are especially popular with families looking for a more flexible and personalized experience.

Can I bring my camera?

Absolutely! Denali offers some of the most spectacular scenery in Alaska, making it a paradise for photographers of all skill levels. Along the way, you'll have opportunities to photograph mountain vistas, tundra landscapes, wildflowers, rivers, forests, and potentially even wildlife.

Whether you're bringing a smartphone, DSLR camera, or professional photography equipment, our guides are happy to help you find great viewpoints and answer questions about the area. Private hikes are particularly popular among photographers who want extra time to stop, take pictures, and explore unique locations.

Are the trails inside Denali National Park?

Our hiking routes may take place within Denali National Park or in the beautiful public lands surrounding the park. Trail selection depends on current conditions, weather, group ability, and the type of experience guests are looking for.

The Denali area offers an incredible variety of terrain, from forested taiga trails and alpine tundra ridges to scenic overlooks with breathtaking mountain views. Your guide will select the best available route to ensure a safe, enjoyable, and memorable experience while showcasing the beauty of the region.

Can I book a private hike?

Yes! Our private hiking adventures are perfect for guests who want a more personalized experience. Whether you're looking for a relaxed nature walk, a challenging mountain hike, wildlife viewing opportunities, photography-focused excursions, or simply a quieter experience with family and friends, we can customize the day to fit your goals.

Private trips allow your guide to tailor the route, pace, distance, and points of interest specifically to your group. You'll enjoy the flexibility to stop for photos, ask questions, spend more time exploring, and experience Denali on your own schedule. Half-day and full-day options are available.

Why should I choose a guided hike instead of hiking on my own?

While there are many trails in the Denali area that visitors can explore independently, a guided hike offers a deeper and more rewarding experience. Our guides bring years of local knowledge and can help you discover hidden viewpoints, wildlife habitats, unique landscapes, and fascinating stories about the area.

You'll learn about Denali's geology, ecology, plants, animals, history, and culture while hiking safely with an experienced professional. Having a guide also allows you to focus on enjoying the scenery instead of navigating unfamiliar terrain. Many guests tell us that the stories, local knowledge, and personal connections they gain from their guide are what make their hike one of the highlights of their Alaska vacation.

What makes your guides different?

Our lead hiking guide, Josie, is passionate about sharing the beauty, history, and wilderness of the Denali area with every guest. Whether you're an experienced hiker or exploring Alaska's trails for the first time, Josie creates a welcoming and enjoyable experience for hikers of all skill levels.

What sets our guided hikes apart is the personal connection. Josie loves helping guests discover hidden viewpoints, spot wildlife, learn about local plants and ecosystems, and experience the Denali area beyond the typical tourist stops. Her enthusiasm for Alaska's wilderness is contagious, and she's always happy to answer questions, share local stories, and tailor the pace of the hike to the group's needs.

Many guests tell us that one of the highlights of their trip is spending time on the trail with a knowledgeable local guide who genuinely loves the outdoors and enjoys helping others experience it. Our goal is for you to leave with incredible memories, beautiful photos, and a deeper appreciation for the wild landscapes that make Denali so special.

What should I bring?

To make the most of your Denali hiking adventure, we recommend bringing a reusable water bottle, weather-appropriate layers, a rain jacket, sunscreen, insect repellent, and a camera or phone for photos. A small daypack can also be helpful for carrying personal items.

Because weather conditions can change quickly in Alaska, it's always a good idea to be prepared for both sunshine and cooler temperatures, even during the middle of summer. If you're joining a private full-day hike, your guide may recommend additional items depending on the planned route and conditions.
