Description: 

Enjoy just enough of Delhi, and a whole lot of exploring the Himalayas on foot and then by water. First, embark on the best short trek in the Himalaya. Easily accessible from Delhi, it offers spectacular views of the snow-capped mountains all throughout the trek. There is beautiful camping by the lake of Devariyatal where on a clear day one can see a perfect reflection of Mt Chaukhamba. The forest walk from the Devariyatal lake to Chopta is completely pristine and the climb up to the summit of Chandrashilla is short but challenging. Then move onto the water with a multi-day whitewater rafting expedition on the Holy Ganga. River Ganga is famous for its big volume Class III rapids which are fun on any day. The fall season offers great water levels and temperatures to enjoy river rafting activity. Spend half a day in Rishikesh dubbed “TheYoga Capital of the World”. We then, will transport to the train station in Haridwar and depart back to Delhi via Express train. Spend the last day going over photos and sharing memories during our Farewell Breakfast at our Hotel in Delhi

Itinerary

 

Day 0: Arrive in Delhi night before the trip begins

 

Day 1: Welcome breakfast at the Radisson hotel. Relax and visit Connaught place (times Square of Delhi). Go over trip itinerary. Issue dry bags and Q and A. Tour Delhi if desired. Connaught Place is centered on a ring of colonnaded Georgian-style buildings with global chain stores, vintage cinemas, bars, and Indian restaurants. Stalls at Janpath Market sell saris, embroidered bags, and trinkets. The peaceful Sikh temple Gurdwara Bangla Sahib is known for its reflecting pool, and Jantar Mantar is a 1700s observatory with substantial astronomical instruments. 

 

Day 2: Overnight train from Delhi to Haridwar (6-7hrs). Take the overnight New Delhi Dehradun AC Express from New Delhi to reach Haridwar early in the morning.

DAY 3: Team up with Expeditions India Team and drive Haridwar to Sari (7-8 hours). Trek to Devariyatal (2440m) (2 hours). When train arrives in Hariward we will board waiting vehicles and drive straight to the village of Sari high up the Mandakini Valley. Breakfast and lunch will be en route. Arrive at Sari, and after some tea and biscuits start the steep 2-hour climb to Devariyatal Lake (2440 m). 

Day 4: Trek Devariyatal to Chopta (6-8 hrs). The trail goes through the dense forest and stays on the ridge to Tali. From here, we descend for a while to cross a stream and then climb up gradually to reach Chopta. It is located in an idyllic setting with beautiful meadows and surrounded by dense forests. For people who want to take it easy, there is also an option to skip the long walk and walk down 1.5hr to the road at Sari instead. From here, you can drive leisurely through the forests to the campsite at Chopta. 

Day 5: Trek Chopta – Tungnath (3-4 hrs) – Chandrashilla Top (1 hr) and back (2-3 hrs). Start early in the morning and climb up the cemented pilgrim path up to the Shiva temple of Tungnath (3470 m), with blossoming rhododendron bushes all around and the mighty Kedar range in full view throughout the trek. Tungnath is the highest temple in Garhwal, and it is easy to understand how the spectacular location evokes a deep sense of spirituality and religious devotion.  After a packed breakfast and a short rest, we climb for an hour to the summit of Chandrashila peak (3650 m) above Tungnath. Chandrashila is the highest point in the area and provides breathtaking 360-degree views on a clear day with the mighty snow-clad ranges to the north and the endless series of lower ridges visible to the plains in the south. 

 

Day 6: Drive Chopta – Bhagwan (3-4 hrs) and raft to Byas-Ghat. Starting early, we drive to the put-in point of our rafting trip at Baghwan. After a comprehensive safety briefing and packing the bags on the raft, we begin rafting. We start the raft trip on the Alaknanda River as it enters the last canyon stretch with good whitewater, with names of rapids such as ‘Baghwan’s Pillow,’ ‘The Deadly Duos’ and more, until we reach Devprayag. It is a mild section from here until the campsite with a few rapids where you can body surf, swim, relax and spot wildlife.

 

Day 7: Raft Byas-Ghat to Kaudiyala. An easy day with small rapids. Great day to relax, soak in the sun, bodysurf, and bird-watch. Raft time is approximately 35 km to Kaudiyala. Set up camp for the night on a beach at Kaudiyala.

 

Day 8: Raft Kaudiyala to Rishikesh. Raft down adrenaline pumping rapids like ‘Daniel’s Dip,’ ‘The Wall,’ ‘Three Blind Mice,’ ‘Crossfire,’ ‘Bodysurfing,’ ‘Return to Sender,’ ‘Roller Coaster,’ ‘Golf Course’, and lots of smaller ones too. We stop to have lunch and then continue to encounter the big rapids on the Ganga. We end the raft trip just before the famous Laxman Jhula in Rishikesh. Overnight in arranged hotel in Rishikesh. 

 

Day 9: Tour Rishikesh (3-4 hrs)- train to Delhi (5 hrs) Spend the morning visiting various ashrams, or schedule a short morning yoga class in “Yoga Capital of the world.” After lunch, we drive to Haridwar station to catch the evening Shatabdi Express to Delhi, where we arrive at night at Hotel in Delhi

Day 10:Trip review.(2 hrs) Breakfast at the hotel. Photo show and goodbyes. Trip Ends
